George Ledbetter, age 72, is riding his bicycle across America (again)
about 2,300 miles - This time to raise money for ChildHelp USA.
Heat Wave!

Rode to Pismo Beach California and discovered a few things along the way. The heat wave in Central California has created a major problem for bickers. The majority of State and County camp grounds are filled to capacity.

There are signs along the highway forbidding people to park overnight. Cities along the route have similar signs and it is becoming very difficult for me to find a place to camp after my rides.

I was departing Cayucus (which is Native Coastal American for kayak) and I spotted a bicycle rider heading in the opposite direction. I shouted out something to get his attention and asked him if he knew of a place where I could park my car for the evening. We chatted briefly about my ride and this gentleman said “park in my driveway"

I rode back to my Jeep and followed directions and parked in his drive way for the night. What a nice couple to offer a perfect stranger the privilege of spending the night parked in their driveway.

Jack and May of Los Osos, CA are my Good Samaritans of the Day. Unfortunately I left early in the morning and did not have an opportunity to take their photograph. Probably just as well because Jack is, among other things, a professional pphotographer. I hope our paths cross in the future.

There are a few photographs included that are my attempt to show what it is like to ride along the coastal highway with wild flowers growing alongside the road. It is truly a beautiful site to behold. These beautiful flowers growing wild along the road add to the joy of riding on the Coastal Highway.
