The ride today was crazy! I have been riding on Highway 1 for several hundred miles. Rounding a corner in Santa Cruz to the on-ramp for Highway a sign indicated pedestrians and bicyclists are not allowed on the road.

I managed to locate a bicycle shop and received instructions, that would stagger the imagination of Marco Polo, about the circuitous route to ride to Monterey, California.

After a few false turns, stops, and frustration I managed to wind my way to Monterey, California. No really big deal just a lot of little deals that made my ride to Monterey much more difficult then I would have preferred. Santa Cruz is very bike friendly which is a good thing. The Highway Department appears to be not so bicycle friendly.

My advice is to ride through Santa Cruz and make other plans to ride through Monterey.
