I had a short ride of 31 miles today ending in a County Park in Bodega Bay. CA. I loved this ride! The topography is changing and the road paralleled the ocean for nearly the entire distance. The
scent of the ocean is slightly different the farther south I ride. I have no idea why.
I stopped briefly north of Jenner, Ca to watch hundreds of seals lying on a sandy spit where the Russian River empties into the ocean. There were seals that would slide down the spit into the water and others that would swim towards the spit and lunge up on the beach.
A couple were taking photos, lucky couple, of the seals and the man told me this is one of the major seal rookeries in the area, It was delightful watching these animals. I continued my ride south towards
Bodega Bay and there was one stretch of the road with a good down hill run with many curves. The couple I met at the seal rookery rode by on their motorcycle and slowed down next to me and the wife took a photo of me as they went by smilling and waving.
There were four beaches along the way with surfers doing their thing. I stopped at one area and spent some time watching the surfers catch a wave and surf to shore. It was great watching the
surfers ride their boards in to shore, turn around, and head back for the next wave.
I rode into Bodega Bay stopped at an Information Booth and learned about a County Park with camping on a sand spit between Bodega Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It sounded perfect to me and I spent the
niight at the site. It Reminded me of the time we lived on our 46 foot sailboat in the Pacific Northwest. The sounds of the sea and the whistle of the buoy at night were very, very nice.
I am taking the day off tomorrow and driving to Santa Rosa, Ca to
spend the night in a motel and take care of some business.
