Two Close Calls!

Another great day to be riding along the Northern California coast. The weather wats perfect for riding and the view of the ocean and surrounding forests is breathtaking! The roads were the same, narrow, winding with minimal to no shoulders.

Two events occurred today that gave me serious reason to consider buying a Hummer and driving the rest of the way to Mexico. Two commercial vehicles drove by me so close that the side of their vehicles were no more then 8 to 10 inches from me. Now that, my friend, really scared me!

However a miss is good as a mile and the good news is they missed me. Also one of the drivers passed me a second time and gave me a lot of room. Perhaps he was awake the second time around.

I spent the night in a California State Park north of Manchester, CA. I met a woman from Germany that is riding her bicycle from Vancouver BC to San Diego and she is camping along the way. There were two men from Portland, Oregon that stayed in the same camp ground that were riding to San Francisco.

We had an opportunity to share road stories with each other. It was a pleasant evening with the wind blowing in from the ocean. We were too far away from the beach to hear the surf. We were also too far away from Highway 1 to hear traffic noise.

A very pleasant, primitive camp site.
