Great Day for Riding

It was a great day for riding a bicycle today. The temperature was in the mid 70’s and the wind was blowing from the Northwest. Highway 1 meandered along the ocean with stretches of the road turning inland through farm lands and ocean frontage.

Riding on a road with fairly wide shoulders provides a certain level of comfort for me. However Highway has stretches with wide shoulders and then there are stretches of the road with minimal to no shoulders. Which can be a little disconcerting with traffic flowing both ways on the road.

Another word to describe riding a bicycle on a narrow road without shoulders is terrifying! Fortunately the majority of the ride is great because the motorists on the road are careful drivers and hey slow down and pass with ample room. Once in a wile a driver will pass to close and that is not a pleasant experience. That only happened about 4 times on this ride.

The majority of the motorists are great about sharing the road with bicycles. Most, not all of them. I stopped along the way and took some photos of some beautiful shoreline in Mendicino and other areas. Unfortunately these photos will never be shown because I left my camera in a men's room in a coffee shop and it was not turned in to the owner.
