The ride through the coastal mountains today was the hardest of my ride to date and Highway 101 took it’s toll on me today. The route went over fairly steep hills for the entire 53 miles ridden. It was hard work! The good news is the down hill rides were outstanding and
on one of them my top speed for the day was 44 MPH. My goal is to keep on peddling until we (both wheels, me and the rest of the bicycle) reach the summit. Then it is time to let the bicycle go with the flow of the hill, which always makes the hard work getting to the top of the hill worth the effort!
I was ready for a shower, dinner and a good night sleep by the time this ride was over. Another element in the equation was the number of road construction projects on this segment of the ride. I know there will be other very hilly rides before my wheels are in Mexico, I am just happy this particular ride is behind me and I won’t have to deal with this one again on this trip.
The ride was hard however the scenery beautiful. One nice thing about riding a bicycle on a trip like this is you have an opportunity to see so much more then you would driving a car along the same
route. It a great experience to smell the sea, and the plants growing along the side of the road. The views from a bicycle is so much more enjoyable then viewing from inside an automobile smoking along at 55 to 65 miles an hour.
There were several fog banks at the bottom of some of the valleys along the ocean. The wind was blowing rather hard and my hands and feet were very cold by the time the ride was over. It took me some time to warm up after getting off the bicycle.
I have opportunities every day to share ChildHelp information with people along the way. Most people are very supportive and indicate they will make a contribution to help provide support for these unfortunate children.
