My ride today was wonderful! It was through a long valley with some snow capped mountains on both sides. The Seveir River runs up through this beautiful valley parallel to Hwy 89. It flows to and from Piute Lake. A fun sight from the road was the river rafters. I also enjoyed the cows grazing on lush pasture below the hills and mountains as they looked at me with curiosity. Today's ride also took me by the "Big Rock Candy Mountain". It was a light to medium marbled chocolate color, shaped somewhat like a decadent truffle. I recalled a song by Burl Ives, "Big Rock Candy Mountain" and sang a few phrases to Sue and the cats. Perhaps this was the mountain on Hwy 89 that inspired his song. The KOA at Richfield is humoring us with its large shade trees to help ease the heat at 95 plus degrees. We'll be moving to our next "home base", Provo, UT, in a few days. |
