Started the ride in the middle of downtown Ennis on Hwy 287 heading for Townsend, MT. The weather was kind to me today. No wind! A little chilly this a.m. The Hwy goes through rich farmlands and cattle ranches. Climbs out of the valley and drops down into another valley and ends a few miles from junction 90. At least one half of the shoulder is occupied by a rumble strip. The balance of approximately fourteen inches is for bicycles. MT has a wide open feel to it, spectacular country! There is a common road sign that appears at just about every side road that we pass leading into private ranches. The sign has a fish and a hook, symbols for access to rivers and lakes for fishing. We discovered the Wheat Montana Bakery and Deli, today. Out in the middle of thousands of miles of wheat land, this business serves the best sandwiches, soups, chilis and baked goods made from . . . (guess what?) . . .. WHEAT! |
